What's the point of having a nice car if you don’t drive it?
Ronnie Taylor bought the 68 Chevelle from a garage in New Hampshire for $6,000. When he went to replace the steering column, it was apparent it would cost him much more. "The only thing left is the roof and chassis," says Taylor. Named for his late mother, Sweet Lorraine has brought a bit of joy not only into Taylor's life but to anyone who sees this magnificent piece of machinery rolling down the avenue. "A lot of cops give me a cheeky smile," he says. "One time a cop told me he'd give me a ticket if I DIDN'T 'leave a patch.'" Taylor won't let Sweet Lorraine just sit in a garage, waiting to be occasionally rubbed by a chamois. "It's my everyday car--I'm not afraid to drive it."
Sweet Lorraine has gone from Hoboken to Milwaukee and back, but one of Taylor's favorite places to take her is through the Lincoln Tunnel, "early on a Saturday or Sunday morning--that's the best time to open her up."
