When people asked us how we were going to cover the infamous Hoboken St. Patrick's Day Parade for our March/April issue, many were surprised when we said we weren't. Frankly, drunken throngs of twenty-somethings in Notre Dame shirts that just fell off the train from Boonton don't really represent the reader we're gunning for. We prefer those who appreciate Hoboken for what it is, not for the mess they can make of it.
But while it seems the world likes to come to Hoboken and trash the place, there are those here in Hoboken who are doing their part to help the rest of the world. There's another side to being "green" that doesn't involve adding food coloring to your Coors Light, and the efforts of some in this town will make a significant impact on the way we generate and utilize our energy resources. Of course there's no reason we can't have a good time, and Hoboken's Bars are a resource unto themselves--particularly those that have been around long enough to witness the city's transformation over the years. But if you've spent too much time in the bars, be it on parade day or the other 364 days a year, we have a few excellent local options to help you get into shape for the coming spring and on into summer. And as always, we rave about our local favorites--great groceries, bold new bands, swinging clubs, waiting rooms, fresh chickens, the Emerald Isle and the Mayor's sweet ride.
On a melancholy note, we must pause and acknowledge the passing of our art director, Sang Lee. Sang was instrumental in the creation of this magazine, bringing not only outstanding graphic talent but a limitless enthusiasm that made us all think bigger. Beyond his visionary artistic abilities and his tremendous energy, Sang was one hell of a writer--with a voice all his own. We look forward to presenting his work in our forthcoming issues so you can get to know our dear friend, and we'll try to do the best we can without him. He is sorely missed.
We thank you for reading, we look forward to hearing from you and we appreciate all you do to make Hoboken, well… Hoboken.
Gratefully yours,
The hMAG Staff
