When Little Grocery owner, Neamet Elsayed, was playing for the Egyptian national soccer team in the 80’s, he never imagined that he would one day become one of the most respected chefs in New York and New Jersey. His resume boasts the French Culinary Institute, numerous 4 star restaurants and even Madonna---he catered her 40th birthday party 10 years ago in LA.
Elsayed has wife of 20 years and Little Grocery co-owner, Peggy, to thank for his career choice. “It was her idea that I attend culinary school. She saw an ad for the French Culinary Institute in the paper and told me that I should go.” And so he went.
When retiring after many grueling years in the restaurant world, his wife again inspired his next move--turning a piece of their property into a cozy, Parisian-like café.
Quiches, pastas, and paninis are prepared fresh daily, but the simple and sinfully fluffy egg sandwiches might be the biggest draw--pair with a flakey croissant for extra buttery goodness.
