No it’s not Beerfest, and no, the hMAG Team is not training to down an entire barrel of beer in a matter of minutes. It’s time for the annual “Fill-The-Boot” fundraiser for muscular dystrophy research and prevention, in Hoboken held by both the Fire Department and local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) volunteers.
The fundraiser, for “Jerry’s Kids”, includes various, local firefighters setting up shop in high traffic areas (try the PATH station and near the Malibu Diner at 14th St.) and asking pedestrians for spare bills to help fill up..you guessed it, a boot full of money! The money is donated directly to the MDA and Jerry’s Kids to help prevent the disease and research possible cures. If, like me, you have no idea who or what Jerry’s Kids are, they’re the children with muscular dystrophy that are supported by both the MDA and its chairman slash comedian, Jerry Lewis.
The fundraiser is taking place this week, July 21-23. Keep your eyes and pocketbooks peeled, and be prepared to throw some money at those hunky firefighters (ok, don’t throw. I don’t want to responsible for a money tossing lawsuit)! Whether it is fifty cents or fifty dollars, every little bit counts. Good luck Hoboken, and fill...DAS BOOT!
