Movies Under the Stars SPECIAL addition!!

Looks like your schedules for Wednesday and Friday Nights just became full! The Pier A Park will be hosting a double feature on Wednesday evening for the Movies Under the Stars series.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will begin showing at 8:15pm, and Up in the Air, which was originally rained out, will begin showing at 9:30pm.

On Friday, Mile Square residents are in for a special treat: The Alamo Drafthouse and Levi’s® present The 2010 Rolling Roadshow present the show, On the Waterfront. It will begin promptly at 8:15pm.

Winner of 8 Academy awards, the social commentary film, On the Waterfront, sheds light upon the corruption, crime, and immorality that occurs on the New Jersey docks. These awards include, Best Picture, Best Writing, Story and Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing, Best Art Direction-Set Direction, Black-and-White, and Best Cinematography, Black-and-White!

It was filmed in our very own Hoboken! It tells the story of a simple dock hand, Terry, who dreams of being a prize fighter. Surrounded by corrupt bosses, and workers turning against one another, Terry inadvertently takes part in a murder of a fellow worker. The story deals with the struggles and hardships that workers and their families endured during this time. Terry neither wanted nor intended to become a hero. But rightfully so, he became a symbol of the workers’ intolerance of exploitation.

The Rolling Roadshow is a nationwide tour of free outdoor 35mm screening experiences upon a massive 40 ft. screen! Their goal is to pair films with the famous locations that they were filmed. The theme for this year during the month of August is “We Are All Workers”. The Alamo Drafthouse and the Levi’s® brand have partnered to make this experience possible.

The Mayor Dawn Zimmer, and the Director of Human Services Leo Pellegrini have offered to provide Free VIP seating to seniors at this screening. This will be a Special Senior Night Out, which will also include free transportation and refreshments to seniors.
