Does Your Service Sing to You?

October 28, 2010 posted 570 days ago h Now Danielle Maginnis

Coming from a night of laughs with a comedian, we didn’t want the amusement and fun atmosphere to disappear. So where did we go? Johnny Rockets (134 Washington St.)... where good old-fashioned fun meets booming, trendy Hoboken.

My roommate, myself, and a few friends piled into one of the big corner booths. The first thing that we order, without hesitation: shakes. All around the table, there was Butterfinger, Strawberry-Banana, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and a Root Beer Float. We knew we’d need something to get us through the rest of the menu.

Next we move on to the appetizers. An order of chili cheese fries and regular cheese fries for the table, please. And you know the best part about the fries? When they serve you, your eyes get wide while your taste buds get excited, and a smile crosses your face; and you notice your ketchup is smiling back at you!

The famous burgers could not be passed up by anyone in my company. Bacon cheddar won the hearts of two young men, while the Rocket won over another. A Patty Melt and Smoke House complete the order.
With more than 200 restaurants around the US, no wonder it’s a family hit (especially in Hoboken where families thrive)! The all-American look and feel, tabletop jukeboxes, and authentic décor really give Johnny Rockets its mark. Not to mention the notable juicy burgers and classic sandwiches. And who could forget the hand-dipped shakes and malts?! Looking for a great deal on food and fun, this is the place to be!

While sipping on our shakes and enjoying the tunes, we recall jokes from earlier in the evening. Everyone is laughing and enjoying themselves. Our attention is caught by the banging of spoons on medal. What the…? I guess it’s been a while since I have been to Johnny Rockets, because I forgot about the singing service! From behind the bar, a handful of workers are lined up with smiles on their faces. In unison they sing, and dance, and make some more noise. Every in the restaurant was enjoying the performance. It's nice to get entertainment DURING dinner!

The chit-chat died down as we all dove into our burgers. Everyone was more than pleased with their dish. We continued to enjoy the music, and each other’s plates! And before we knew it, we were all fat and happy, and ready to head home. Should we play one more tune before we hit the road? You bet we did!

A majority of the club members ride a Harley, which originally was the bike you needed to have to join the club, but is now open to all American bikes. Chipper, who was first inspired to ride by the movie “Easy Rider,” got his first Harley in 1972, which he still has in mint condition...
