When he was competing in the hit reality TV show, “Project Runway,” fashion designer Rodney Epperson wasn’t dreaming of celebrity status; he just wanted t o take his career to the next level. He’s achieved that – and also reached a new level of happiness right here in Hoboken! The Harlem native’s theme in the fashion world is “deconstruction,” but his personal style isn’t what you would expect of a celeb fashion designer. Soft-spoken and warm, he’s more like Hoboken itself: a unique part of the big city that shines brightly on its own— which is probably why Hoboken is the perfect new home for his studio.
Epperson’s previous studio was in NYC, but after visiting Hoboken, he decided it was time for a change. “I have this old, rustic building here. It’s so cool,” he says, noting the freight elevator, high ceili ngs, and wall-to-wall windows. The space inspires him and complements his signature style perfectly. And here in Hoboken, he is able to walk down the street and enjoy anonymity again. “It’s like this whole other world,” he says.
