Currently on display in the Main Gallery of The Hoboken Historical Museum, Yum Yum, Tootsie Rolls, and Chocolate Bunnies on Motorcycles…A Sweet History of Hoboken offers a review of the city’s history from an unusual perspective. Said Museum Director Bob Foster, “You can tell the history of the community in many ways. In this exhibit, we decided to tell that history through sweets.”
Those sweets speak not only of the waves of immigrants – the German bakers and Italian pastry makers – who have shaped this city’s development but also of the role manufacturing has played in the history of Hoboken. The exhibit highlights big companies that once called Hoboken home and also considers smaller Mom & Pop shops – some of which, like Schnackenberg’s, Giorgio’s Pasticcerie and Carlo’s Bakery, are still with us today.
The exhibition continues through August of this year. Founded 1986, the Hoboken Historical Museum is located at 1301 Hudson Street. For more information, call (201) 656-2240 or visit www.hobokenmuseum.org.
