Jeff Miles

April 28, 2011 posted 388 days ago Faces Melissa Melms

Does the name Jeff Miles sound familiar? That’s because Jeff is Hoboken’s very own local celebrity and the midday personality for New York’s 95.5 WPLJ!

He's a Texas-native, outgoing, friendly, he's all over the radio and on Facebook!

“My job at WPLJ is what brought us here 2 ½ years ago,” Jeff explained how he came to live in the Mile Square. “My wife, Zulie, and I originally wanted to live in the city, but we have a large dog and no one would even talk to us. A few friends I work with told me to check out Hoboken because it was dog-friendly and we’ve loved it since!”

So we know how he decided to call Hoboken home, but the story of how Jeff got into the radio industry is even better.

“Honestly, it was by complete accident. When I was in college I needed a job over the summer and couldn’t get hired at McDonald’s, the grocery store, or the local Walmart. So I am driving down the road and see a building with call letters on it. Went inside and somehow ended up with a job as a DJ on the radio 2 days later!”

That was fifteen years ago and obviously Jeff had a knack for talking on-air because he’s been doing it ever since. Monday through Friday, Jeff provides entertainment to the NYC area from 10am-3pm.

What’s more, Jeff is also a voiceover actor and has landed national TV spots for Geico, the NFL, and narrations for the Discovery Channel.

He has a less-than-typical career as one of the lucky (and talented!) few to have the honor of being on-air, in a very creative industry, influencing listeners all around. “I am very ADD and it suits my personality very well. No two days are alike!” But what exactly is a typical day like for Jeff?

“Well, I wake up around 6:30 and immediately start watching morning news programs and look online at the different entertainment sites to see what all is going on,” Jeff explained his morning prep. “I do a video blog for my listeners around 7:30 daily where I give my opinions on news, entertainment and lifestyle topics. By that time, I have taken a shower, run my dog out and had breakfast and it’s time to head out to catch the bus. I get to work around 9:15 (our studios are directly above Madison Square Garden), get my show planned and go on the air at 10.”

Jeff spends a good chunk of the week in New York but maybe you’ve seen him and his wife on Saturday and Sunday mornings walking along the river with their weimaraner, Gracie, or walking up and down Washington Street checking out the shops and restaurants. Some of their favorites include Hudson Tavern, Amanda’s, and Dino & Harry’s. “But by far my favorite is The Taco Truck. Have you had their tacos?!”

Another favorite Hoboken hobby includes hanging out with friends at the Elysian dog park. “My wife and I have met some really great people there with all of our pooches.”

What’s next for Jeff? “I would love to host entertainment programming on TV!” So, we already love Jeff Miles as a radio personality, but maybe one day in the near future we’ll enjoy him on TV as well!
