RC How long have you been working at Hudson Tavern?
Kerry Since the day we opened. I waited forEVER for them to open. I was a customer of Lady Janes... (what it used to be) and when they closed to renovate, I was first on the list of "call me the second you open!" Thank God Tom Brennan didn't forget about me. THANX TOM. :o)
RC What is the craziest thing you've ever seen while working behind the bar?
Kerry Nothing really seems that crazy to me anymore. I've seen fights, car accidents, people genuinely behaving "BADLY"- I've seen it all.
RC What is the biggest tip you ever received?
Kerry $5,000.00. It sounds nuts, but it was 20%. (the minimum these days. READ IT PEOPLE) His name was "Champagne Mike". It was when I was bartending at the VIP Club. He drank every bottle we had.
RC What is the drink you make the best that everyone reading this should try?
Kerry - a FIGGETTABOUTIT. It's my Cosmo...With fig-infused Vodka, fresh lime, Cointreau, and cranberry.
RC Have you ever served a celebrity?
Kerry Many. So many. My favorite was David Lee Roth. I gave him a Jack on the rocks. (you'll probably have to end the quote there.....) But....he tipped me with a hundred dollar bill rolled up, filled with what I'll call BABY POWDER. (unfortunately, or fortunately, however you look at it. I don't use baby powder, so I had it CLEANED) :o)
RC What kind of music do you like to listen to while working?
Kerry Classic Rock baby.
RC Whats the best tip you can give someone to earn a buyback?
Kerry - It's not rocket science. My manager Butch and I were JUST talking about this. Be polite, Don't yell, point, grab, scream, throw things, whistle, condescend, or call me "toots" "babe" "yo" or "hey". Don't call Jameson "Jame-oh" or Budweiser "Bud-Heavy". These are all red flags for a BAD customer. (to put it nicely).
RC How do you deal with down time when it is slow?
Kerry If you've ever been to Hudson Tavern....you'd notice I have a circular bar. soooo.... I do laps. :)
RC Have you ever been invited to a wedding by a customer?
Kerry Oh yeah, I've been invited to weddings, christenings, EASTER SUNDAYS. you name it.
RC What are the Pro's and Con's to being a bartender in Hoboken?
Kerry Ya know...after 15 years, I've developed a very strong bond with my co-workers, customers, ......FAMILY. But as of last week, I moved to Boonton Township. It's a COMMUTE now. OUCH.
RC Do you know any good bar tricks?
Kerry I know how to make people drunk. *poof*
