Have you ever heard of Georgia Luch? Maybe you’ve seen her sitting outside at one of her favorite outdoor restaurants? Or maybe you saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and paid extra close attention to the mermaids? It may be hard to believe, but Hoboken has been housing a mermaid for the past 22 years in the form of Georgia Luch, a Hoboken native and University of Alabama at Birmingham senior. Okay, well, she does have legs, feet, and can walk, but those are just details in comparison with what Georgia can really do. After watching her move around like a dolphin in her audition tape on YouTube, it’s easy to see why she was cast in a movie worth $956.7 million in worldwide box office sales. After numerous auditions via web communication, Georgia was cast as one of the mermaids in the fourth installment of Pirates. Although she was on set with big time actors like Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz (she finds Depp to be “funny”), she doesn’t see a future for herself in acting; she’s a businesswoman in the making. As a business major at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Georgia was recruited for the Division I synchronized swimming program, a team that finished 4th in the nation before it disbanded.
Since she was very small, Georgia hasn’t spent much time out of the water. She began with competitive swimming, but found her true passion lay in synchronized swimming, and thus began her journey. Currently, she lives on Hudson Street, and has been in love with Hoboken for as long as she can remember, “It’s just the best place to be, and there’s always so much to do! My favorite place is Pier A, and the new pier is beautiful as well! It has such a good view and a great vibe. It’s a perfect place to meet up with friends, because we all live close to it,” says Georgia.
Right now the easy-going, driven, and fun-loving Georgia is home for the summer, relaxing, hanging out with friends, running, enjoying the great outdoors, and above all- working on her brand new business! At just 22, Georgia has not only been recognized for her talent as a graceful swimmer by those on the silver screen, but she has created Eau La La Entertainment, a company consisting of an all-female synchronized swimming cast. Eau (the French word for ‘water’) La La ia available to perform at special events, private parties, weddings, music videos, and any special or corporate events- Georgia is clearly not looking for a typical 9 to 5. This special group of ladies uses elements of synchronized swimming, dance, and wardrobe to create a special performance to uniquely fit each client. We know she’s talented, but what gave her the ammunition for this unique business idea? “When I was doing the movie, I just thought of the idea to make a business out of doing something that I love,” was Georgia’s simple response.
“My favorite part about this job would have to be everything- I love swimming and performing. I want to make each person’s party unique,” says Georgia. “The hardest part about my job is helping change people’s perceptions about synchronized swimming. Many people either don’t know what synchronized swimming is, or they have a misconception about it. Sometimes it is difficult trying to break that image and show people that it is a very cool and beautiful sport,” says the experienced swimmer. She seems to be spending her summer living a double life- one as a 22 year-old college student home for summer break, and the other as a business manager in charge of lifting her company off the ground. “A typical day [at work] is working on my company! Whether it’s setting up photo shoots for our Facebook page, talking with swimwear designers, or meeting with potential clients- I always keep myself very busy,” says Georgia.
With her love divided between water and Hoboken, Georgia combines the two on a typical weeknight, “My favorite thing to do is enjoy the outdoor restaurants by the water, I’d even like to see more- right on the water! Life is fun here, it’s so easy to get together, and there’s so much jammed into 1 mile; it’s packed with things to do. However, it needs a pool! And hey, maybe Eau La La Entertainment can perform at the pool’s opening!” adds Georgia as she laughs in her surveillance of her hometown.
Though her love for Hoboken is sincere, Georgia has her eyes set on seeing much of the world, admitting, “I’ve been to 42 states, and I only have 8 more to go. I want to see other countries too, with Australia at the top of my list.” She makes it a point to add that “It doesn’t matter where I am, I’ll always love Hoboken.”
Check out & “like” Eau La La Entertainment’s facebook page or email them at Eau.La.La.Entertainment@gmail.com for booking! Eau La La is a fun way to upgrade your parties, you can have your choice in costumes, or the number of girls- it’s your preference!
