Hoboken attracts people from all over the country, like recent college graduate Lachelle Trout. Lachelle, who just moved to Hoboken a couple weeks ago from Ohio, hasn’t had much time to explore Hoboken but already likes the small town feel mixed with the abundance of nightlife and free activities Hoboken has to offer. “There’s a lot to do right at your doorstep. It has a small community feel, yet a big city scene.”
Majoring in finance and marketing at Ohio State, Lachelle was drawn to Hoboken after getting a job working for Unilever in Englewood Hills, New Jersey. Lachelle made the big move with her college boyfriend of four years and has been busy moving in to their apartment and adjusting to her new state. When asked what the biggest change has been, she noted driving in Hoboken and the rest of New Jersey is “out of control. It’s so different from the more suburban setting I’m used to in Ohio.”
While Lachelle has been keeping busy settling in to her new life, she’s found time to visit a few of the local bars like Black Bear and Willie McBride's, which she says seem to have pretty good deals. She’s also impressed with the Movies Under the Stars, saying, “there’s a lot of cool things to do for free around here.” Lachelle has already been able to make her way into Manhattan a couple of times where a few of her friends moved to- another perk she sees from living in Hoboken.
Lachelle enjoys running and has found Hoboken an ideal place to enjoy morning jogs these few weeks before she has to start working. Her favorite places to run are along the waterfront where she can take in the city skyline, and along the path into Jersey City. Along with running Lachelle spends her free time dabbling in art and photography, and believes Hoboken will have good opportunities for her to pursue both hobbies.
Describing herself as easygoing, Lachelle hasn’t found much to complain about Hoboken, minus the parking, which she doesn’t see an easy fix to. What surprised her most about Hoboken is the amount of young families. “During the day there are strollers everywhere and it seems very family-oriented, which I didn’t expect. It’s nice.” The stroller-mafia may have surprised this Ohio girl, but she loves to travel and experience new things, which is apparent the minute she talks about moving from Ohio to Hoboken. “I will move anywhere and so far I love it here. The view doesn’t get old. It’s awing.” With a bright future ahead of her, the square mile city will certainly provide this new Hobokenite with plenty of opportunities to flourish.
