Hoboken’s J3

July 27, 2011 posted 298 days ago Raves Diana Schwaeble

Nationally known musician loyal to his roots

To call John Allen the III a virtuoso on guitar doesn’t quite cover the talent of this Hoboken musician. Adept at both bass and guitar, J3 – as he’s known to everyone – is best while performing. He’s played worldwide with Tommy Lee’s acclaimed band Methods of Mayhem and Sevendust, yet that only begins to tell his story.

For the uninitiated, J3 spends his downtime composing and producing talent. Ever humble, he maintains friendships and will fill in for local bands in a pinch. But his knowledge extends beyond performing and producing. His latest project is a weekly radio show about all the great rock music that rarely gets played anymore. “UnSpun Heroes” airs Fridays at midnight on WFTE, 90.3FM in Scranton, PA and will soon be heard streaming from his site UnSpunHeroes.info. If you are a purist, you can catch J3 at his monthly solo acoustic gig at McSwiggan’s where he won’t be plugged in, but he will be turned on.
