Eat in Hoboken! July 25th- August 5th Marks Hudson County’s 14th Restaurant Week!
This year the snow was brutal, relentless, and domineering. I know, I know, who wants to talk about snow in the middle of July? Certainly not Restaurant Week goers! It’s a good thing July brings the promise of nothing less than 80 degree weather, the snow is unable to thwart excited diners in their quest of fine dining at a reasonable price. Tamara Remedios, an avid creator of local promotions such as Restaurant Week, was among many frustrated by the behavior of the winter weather for January’s Restaurant Week. This time there’s no need to worry, in just a few short days 10 of Hoboken’s many restaurants will be hosting specials in compliance with Hudson County’s Restaurant Week. Favorite restaurants such as 3Forty Grill, Amanda’s, The Brass Rail, The Clinton Social, Dino & Harry’s, Gaslight, The Madison, Oddfellow’s, Village Pourhouse, and Zylo are offering exquisite specials and price fixed menus in hopes of meeting the demands (and wallets) of the Hoboken community!
Since January and July are usually slow here in Hudson County, Tamara decided to create Hudson Restaurant Week in 2005 when she spoke with various restaurant owners with similar motives of bringing people in to eat during off-seasons. A few words from Tamara on the creation of Restaurant Week: “The idea for Restaurant Week came from conversations in 2005 with restaurant owners that wanted new promotions to bring people to the restaurants during off-seasons and from out of town. Thankfully in 2005, Hudson Restaurant Week was the first restaurant week in the state and continues to be the largest. The event was launched with a generous grant from NJ State Tourism that helped market the first-time event. We usually have 10-15,000+ people dining out during the 10 weekdays of Restaurant Week.”
The specials this summer sincerely are mouth-watering; Joe and Doug of The Brass Rail suggest their favorites off of the Lunch Menu ($12) and the 3-Course Dinner Menu ($29): French onion soup, grilled chicken and apple walnut salad, grilled skirt-steak sandwiches, and seared salmon! Don’t forget to save room for dessert with vanilla wafer and banana crème brulee and peanut butter mousse with chocolate ganoche! “We have a lot of good food, and through this event we hope to establish some regulars as they try our dishes,” says the pair.
The Brass Rail isn’t the only restaurant with tasty specials up their sleeves; The Gaslight, Dino & Harry’s, and The Village Pourhouse are sure-fire contenders.
