Laura Walsh

In recent years, Hoboken has blossomed and grown to attract many young, hardworking professionals. Just across the Hudson River from New York City, Hoboken is booming with opportunities to expand one’s career, and that is exactly what attracted Laura Walsh to Hoboken.

Growing up in North Jersey, Laura has always been close to the city, but after graduating with a degree in English with a concentration in Journalism from Fairfield University, she took a job at The Associated Press in Connecticut. Soon after, she says, “I realized that Journalism wasn’t for me, but I still wanted to do something related to my liberal arts degree.” So, she packed up and moved back to New Jersey, where she began working as an editor at Wiley, a publishing company in Hoboken. She has been working at Wiley for six and a half years, and moved to Hoboken about three years ago so that she could live right near her job. “I live and work here,” she says, “so it’s nice that I can walk to work. You have to walk everywhere here and I actually really like it.”

Laura states that like many people living here, her life is very busy and she works very hard finding new authors and content and sustaining and managing existing authors and content. She comments, “Wiley is a really great company and I like the people and the culture there a lot.” Not only is her professional life lively, but she is also very social and active. “I love being outdoors, being physically active, and coming to the park” she says. She also likes to go out to eat or go into the city to see friends. Her favorite restaurant in Hoboken in Onieal’s because it is close by to where she lives. “I got accustomed to going there a lot and it’s still my favorite place,” she raves. She also really enjoys the local activities and events that Hoboken has to offer, particularly the movies under the stars, and she would love to see more activities like that offered to the public.

With all of her busy activities and work, Laura definitely appreciates some time to unwind. She recently got back from a vacation in Jamaica, and likes to go down the Jersey shore often as well. She plans to stay in New Jersey and Hoboken for the next few years, enjoy what Hoboken has to offer, and to watch her career grow and expand.
