The time has come once again for Hobokeners alike to join together and laugh! The 2011 Hoboken Comedy Festival is upon us, featuring repeat talents Yannis Pappas, known by 1.5M YouTube viewers at "Maurica" a transexual from the lower east side; Nate Bargatze, who's tv credits look like a young comedians "to do" list; Todd Barry, a veteran comedian whose fame pre-dates Comedy Central's existence; and Amy Schumer, who we all have seen exploding in the news thanks to her controversial commentary on the Charlie Sheen Roast. Needless to say this year's Festival is looking to make an impact.
Comedy giant, Godfrey, whose one-hour Special Black by Accident recently aired on Comedy Central garnished initial notoriety as the face of 7up in their "7-Up Yours" ad campaign and has more presently been seen in his recurring roles on Louie and 30 Rock joins the cast of the festival headlining the opening night. Another new face to this years lineup is Hannibal Buress, who was listed as "One the 10 Funniest People, Videos, and Things of 2011" by Rolling Stone Magazine. Hannibal's career is highlighted by writing gigs for Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, and comedically he's been featured on every late night program one can conjure.
The Hoboken Comedy Festival is a celebration of Hoboken's entertainment independence, proving that one does not need to submit to the PATH's recent fare hikes and cross the Hudson to see great comedy. This year's Festival supports the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County and it's in second year, is looking to prove that it is here to stay.
Clearview Cinemas joins Maxwell's as sponsoring venue creating a more lucrative experience for audiences with stadium-style seating and both venues offering entry to patrons 17 years of age and older.
Festival founder Dan Frigolette is a 4th year Hoboken Resident and can be seen performing all over New York City, and hosting the opening night of the Hoboken Comedy Festival. "I want to make an impact in this community" says Frigolette "seemingly comedy is the catalyst." As far as goals Frigolette hopes that "Hobokeners look forward to the festival each year, making it a staple in their calendar much-like the plethora of Italian Festivals and Music and Arts Fest." Dan was recently featured in Time Out NY and has been seen on NBC, TLC, and hosts the weekly "Hoboken Classics" at Clearview Cinemas, rifling between movie trivia and "wiener jokes."
The Hoboken Comedy Festival features twenty comedians in four show over three days with familiar faces from television along with a slot for "New Talent" on each show, given to a comedian who is making strides in the industry.
