This past Friday I went on a day trip to Stonehenge. Everyone knows from pictures that Stonehenge is a bunch of really big rocks stacked on top of each other. In person Stonehenge is still a bunch of really big rocks stacked on top of each other.
The rocks are pretty awesome at first because actually seeing them in person makes you realize just how big they are. After about five or ten minutes the novelty started to wear off as I kept looking at the same big rocks. Things were a little more interesting as I became “that tourist” and attempted to get the perfect picture of myself looking like I was holding the rocks. This is surprisingly difficult and takes a lot of trial and error.
Once that was over and I had walked halfway around, I was still looking at the same large rocks but from a slightly different angle. Still cool because- fun fact- the largest rock weighs 45 ton and it’s still not really known how these people managed to stack such heavy rocks on top of each other. Maybe they were just a lot stonger and more resourceful back then? I dunno but it’s pretty crazy to think about.
By the time I had walked all the way around the rocks I decided visiting Stonehenge is something everyone should do once, if they’re ever given the opportunity, but it’s something that only needs to be done once because at the end of the day, you’re just staring at a bunch of rocks. Really, really gigantic rocks…but still rocks.
After visiting Stonehenge we saw some English country side and Old Sarum. Old Sarum used to be an iron age hill fort and then a castle where King Henry I lived. Now all that’s left is the ruins of some stone walls and grass where the moat used to be.
Once we were done looking at the remains of Old Sarum we went to Sainsbury and visited a cathedral. I think it’s called Canterbury Cathedral but I can’t keep track of all the names of every church/cathedral/castle/old building I see. As I said earlier, everything starts to look the same after a while.
So that’s my experience of Stonehenge. I don’t want anyone to think I wasn’t impressed by Stonehenge, because I was. The excitement just wears off, but now I can check that off the list of famous attractions I’ve been to.
