At most bars and restaurants in the Mile Square City you will find a wall dedicated to Zagat reviews, specials and news clippings of fab reviews. At City Bistro, you will find a mega wall completely filled with dog adoption flyers. Gina Avoletta, co-owner of City Bistro located on 14th Street between Washington and Hudson streets is one of Hoboken's biggest supporters of dog rescue. In fact Gina's own dog Hillary who recently celebrated her birthday is a rescue herself.
Gina puts the lives of abandoned dogs first, her reviews and credentials no longer posted, Gina Avoletta is a saint and savior for dogs without homes even beyond the borders of Hoboken. Routinely Gina will email blast friends and colleagues stories and photographs of dogs around the country that are in need of being saved or needing a temporary home.
Hoboken is quite fortunate to have someone like Gina Avolleta in its community. When not running City Bistro, Lua or Johnny Pepperoni's Gina can be found organizing charity events. Every year Gina hosts a December "shopping event" at one of her establishments. The events attract almost 60 vendors each year and hundreds of shoppers. The 2010 event raised money for a variety of charities such as children in Hoboken whose families are in need and for homeless animals in the area.
City Bistro itself offers local diners excellent meals and great drinks, which is why on any given day the restaurant is packed with customers. The restaurant is open 7 days a week and features 3 floors including a roof top open air bar. On many nights live entertainment is offered and throughout the year many local organizations including The Hoboken Homeless Shelter use the restaurant to host fundraisers.
