For Julie Peter, 28, her attraction to move to Hoboken was the social life. After graduating from Syracuse University, she wanted to start her life in a place where she could still stay in touch with friends and family. After most of her friends moved to the Mile Square City, Julie has been calling Hoboken home for the past five years.
Living “right in the middle of the action” on Washington Street, as Julie likes to call it, she describes her life in Hoboken as “...the step between college and reality.” As a social butterfly, her favorite thing to do is to send out mass texts to her friends and gathering around a few beers at a bar just to catch up. You can find her playing darts at The Shannon where she bartended for five years.
When Julie is not bartending, she is currently working on getting an MBA at St. Peter’s College, where she wants to follow her parent’s footsteps and pursue a career in property management. Her parents own a chain of liquor stores and they have served as an inspiration for her career.
Julie likes to keep herself busy while at the same time enjoying the free time she does get. Along with pursuing an MBA, Julie enjoys to read, cook, and spend as much time with friends as she can. What’s her favorite place in Hoboken? “The Shannon will always be home to me” she says. She also loves to order mozzarella from Luca Brasis on Park Ave.
As much as she enjoys socializing in Hoboken, Julie would like to see less chaos at the bars. “People should try to respect that other people live here” she explains.
Three words to describe herself would be sarcastic, funny, and short. “I can’t deny that I’m short. It’s a part of me. I always have to ask someone to get something for me that I can’t reach” she laughs.
Julie’s goal for the future is to finish her MBA, having the luxury of owning her own home, and settling into a permanent job in property management. But for now, she’s really enjoying the free time she has socializing with her friends.
