Looking for a way to fight that winter chill, but can’t afford the plane fare? Well, Havana Café and Lounge is just the spot to beat the winter blues. Located on32 Newark St., the South Beach style inspired restaurant features a bar and dining area with the decorative touches of old world Cuba.
Hanging on the walls are plywood etched portraits of famed Latino musicians such as Celia Cruz and Tito Puente - created by Chicago-based artist Rachel Marino, as well as a silver mural of a marlin representing the geographical shape of Cuba- created by local artist Jon Sisti.
Everything from the lively hand painted green wallpaper along the bar, which looks like swaying palm ferns, to the traditional novelty of plastic covered furnishings - that would make abuela (grandma) proud - was the vision of owner Ray Becerra and architect Rob Feinstein. “Something simple, but Cuban.”
Feinstein said it’s Cuba from an American’s perspective. So come have a mojito and enjoy some warmth in our own little piece of Havana!
