Home is where your heart is, and for Jessica Figlar, her heart is in Hoboken. Better yet, she wants to make Hoboken your home too! Originally from New Providence, NJ, which is an area of Summit, Figlar grew up in a small close-knit community just like Hoboken.
“Where I grew up, we could walk to our friends’ houses and [local] stores, and that’s one of the things I love about Hoboken,” said Figlar. “Hoboken is such a social [hub]. It’s pretty amazing.”
The small town feel attracted her to the Mile Square. Four years ago, Figlar moved here from Basking Ridge to pursue a career in real estate after working in public relations for five years. She studied public relations at East Carolina University in North Carolina.
“I was doing public relations in New York City, and I had a horrible commute,” said Figlar. “It just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t sit down at a desk all my life. I love to interact with people and I love the freedom [in real estate].”
It was through Figlar’s last public relations job, where she fell in love with the real estate profession. She was working with the New Jersey Association of Realtors, and became well versed in the industry.
“I remember sitting there and being jealous of the agents,” said Figlar.
Not long after she left public relations and applied for her real estate license, she immediately moved to Hoboken with the intent of starting her new career.
“New career, new location, new life,” said Figlar, who said that despite the current real estate market, Hoboken is still one of the safest markets in NJ and the country.
Once she arrived in Hoboken, Figlar immediately found her place at Liberty Realty, LLC, and has continued to work there ever since. It is a good fit for Figlar, who is a social person. She loves the interaction with people and the fact that her job on any given day takes her all over town.
“I love Liberty and I love all the agents,” said Figlar. “I was so surprised and overjoyed that everyone works together and helps get the work done. We [always] call one another for advice. It’s much more relaxed and fun.”
Over the last 4 years, Figlar has flourished in her new career and making a home for herself in Hoboken. On any given day you can see her walking her two pugs Pepper and Zooey all over Columbus Park or walking along Pier A. She looks forward to what’s coming next.
“The best part [of the job] is definitely being a part of such a big decision in my client’s lives; buying a home,” said Figlar. “I get so emotionally attached to my clients. I am looking forward to working with everyone I have helped and hopefully buy a place of my own here someday.”
