Goodbye beach chairs, bathing suits, frozen drinks and ocean views… Hello bar stools, jerseys, beers and big screen TVs! Sunday “football fundays” are back and there’s no better place to be than Hoboken. But in a city known to have some of the most bars per square mile, how do you decide where to go? Good thing for die-hard fans, there’s a handful of designated “team bars” so you can cheer and jeer with sports fanatics alike.
I’m a Giants (ok, and Eli) fan, so any given Sunday I’ll be at G-men bars like Willie McBride’s or The Biergarten. On days when Jets and Giants play, Wicked Wolf and The Shannon are bustling with both green and blue. Stomping ground for Steelers is Texas AZ, while McSwiggin’s is home turf for the Patriots, and for those who can’t make it to Philly for the Eagles, they can head downtown to Mulligan’s. If you like the Cowboys, check out Liberty Bar.
Not sure who to root for? Try Black Bear, 4L’s, 1 Republik, Green Rock to name a few places not exclusive to a team, or play the field and bar hop! While football season is unpredictable, whatever Hoboken establishment you touch down on to enjoy the games is sure to be a win.
