There is new sound coming out of Hoboken, in the fresh face of Tyler Reid. Yes, I said fresh. This 17 year-old may not be seasoned as a musician, but he brings energy to his music and has an engaging stage presence. Coupled with his partner Stevie G., the pair sing, rap, and groove their way through their songs and covers. But don’t take my word for it, they’ve been getting attention in the industry.

DS: How long have you been playing music?

Tyler: About 6 years. I bought a guitar and tried to learn how to play and finally just started playing.

DS: Who are your biggest influences?

Tyler: Sublime, Sum 41, the Decemberists, Rise Against. Sublime is like Ska and the Decemberists lyrics are just great.

DS: Name the top three songs on your favorite playlist.

Tyler: “Garden Grove” by Sublime, “Give it all” by Rise Against, “Down by the Water” by The Decemberists.

DS: What did it feel like when you heard that you were going to record on album?

Tyler: Words can’t even describe it. My mind was absolutely blown. It was like the whole world stopped for a second and I just had this moment where all I could think was “oh, it’s on.”

DS: Tell me about that. When are you going to London?

Tyler: We’re not sure yet. We’re still working out dates.

DS: Describe your sound.

Tyler: It’s kind of like: rock, rap, reggae, alternative.

DS: Do you think your music appeals more to men or women?

Tyler: I’m not sure. We’re shooting for both demographics.

DS: What is your best song?

Tyler: “You had me at hello”

DS: What is your favorite snack when you are rehearsing?

Tyler: Whatever’s in my fridge.

DS: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Tyler: You definitely shouldn’t throw that can at that skunk.

DS: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Tyler: Hopefully, touring the world.

DS: What is your favorite thing to do in Hoboken?

Tyler: People watching.

DS: If you could tell your fans one thing, what would that be?

Tyler: They’re the whole reason we’ve come as far as we have. So, “thank you so much.”

DS: If you couldn’t play music, what would you do?

Tyler: Produce.

DS: Describe a great day.

Tyler: Wake up late, play my guitar, chill with my boys, go to a party, repeat as necessary.
