CAN’T KEEP A GOOD BAR DOWN: Northern Soul Set to Return — SATURDAY

How was your 2016?

Ask the the good folks at Northern Soul and you’re bound to hear some colorful language. After closing down in May over a dispute with the landlord, owners announced that it would RE-OPEN in a new location, just blocks from the former venue in the ground floor of The Sky Club (700 First Street, Hoboken).

It looks like 2016 will end on a positive note, as the bar is set for a soft opening this weekend.

“We are excited to (FINALLY) announce that we are having our official soft opening this weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 6pm til close! We have been working tediously the last few months putting together a new and improved Northern Soul,” reads a statement on their Facebook page. “We are stoked to be back in the hood where it all began almost 10 years ago. Our plan is to open (very) softly at first but we have some pretty cool things we are going to roll out in the coming weeks. Just bear with us in the first few weeks while we shake the cobwebs off!

The bar promises to be “a place that is both unpretentious and welcoming,” and offers a FULL MENU—a new addition to the Northern Soul repertoire.

We plan to serve a simple menu that incorporates only the freshest and highest quality ingredients, all sourced from local purveyors with a focus on sustainability and nourishment,” adding, “we welcome everyone from vegans to carnivores!”

Northern Soul was/is way more than just a bar. Host of People’s Open Mic, The Last Waltz, and hundreds of other amazing live music shows, Northern Soul served a vital space for the local cultural scene.

It’ll be nice to have it back…
