HEAVEN, HELL OR TRADER JOE’S — Exalted Food Retailer Hints at Date for Hoboken Location

The Hoboken Trader Joe’s news story is hardly a breaking one—we’ve been clued in for over a year, with City Hall approving a modified plan for the specialty foods retailer back in April.

Trader Joe’s first opened in 1958 in the Los Angeles area.  Since then, the chain has expanded to more than 455 stores in 41 states. As news of the Hoboken location spread, a chorus of hurrahs echoed throughout the 07030 zip code, since not only would the location provide us all with the organic chia bars that we never realized we needed, but the celebrated “Trader Joe’s bump” would also translate into even higher real estate values.

Nevertheless, Trader Joe’s publicists sent out a press release yesterday announcing their plans to open a Hoboken location. Nice hustle, PR department…

What IS news in this press release is that the 11,700 square-foot Hoboken store at the southeast southwest* corner of Willow Ave. and 14th Street, “is scheduled to open in the first half of 2017.”

(*as reader @MissReyhani pointed out, it’s not the southeast—despite what the Trader Joe’s press release says…)

So there you have it—if all goes as planned, we’ll be noshing on Kale/Edamame Spring Rolls sometime next Spring…
