Hoboken Business Alliance Extends Summer Streets Shopping & Dining Into the Fall

The Hoboken Business Alliance (HBA) and City of Hoboken announced a new September and early October schedule with updated locations and operating hours for Summer Streets presented by HBA, which brings more outdoor space, dining and entertainment to Hoboken’s business districts. Following the successful launch this summer, the Summer Streets program will continue to feature both Downtown and Uptown locations, allowing businesses to expand their storefront footprints so residents and visitors can safely shop, dine and enjoy the Mile Square.

The HBA Summer Streets program first launched in partnership with the City of Hoboken in June as a way to bring more public, commercial and recreational space for residents to walk, jog and bike without any major disruption to area parking and local traffic. Since the start of the program, participating Hoboken shops and restaurants have been able to expand their capacities and reach even more customers by setting up outdoor ordering or dining areas, as well as merchandise displays for purchase. Now, as local and state regulations on indoor and outdoor shopping and dining evolve, the Summer Streets program continues to offer a safe and spacious environment for local Hoboken businesses to serve the community. The program invites residents and visitors to walk along Washington Street and enjoy the open space while shopping and dining.

In September through the first week of October, there will be Open Streets on Washington Street every Thursday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m, and on Sundays from noon to 8 p.m., with designated streets open to pedestrian and bike traffic only:

  • September 10, 12 and 13: Washington Street from 5th Street to 8th Street.
  • September 17, 19 and 20: Washington Street from Newark Street to 2nd Street.
  • September 24, 26 and 27: Washington Street from 8th Street to 11th Street.
  • October 1, 3 and 4: Washington Street from 2nd Street to 5th Street.
  • Every Saturday and Sunday in September and October: 1st Street from Washington Street to Garden Street, as well as Sinatra Drive from Newark Street to 4th Street with extended hours between noon to 11 p.m.

“While some indoor dining and shopping has recently reopened at a reduced capacity in our area, we understand how important our Summer Streets program is to help local businesses extend their outdoor space and seating capacities to allow for as many patrons as possible,” said Gregory Dell’Aquila, President of the Hoboken Business Alliance. “By continuing the program with new locations and offerings this Fall, we know residents and visitors can safely enjoy their favorite Hoboken spots.”

“Our open streets have been a great way to enjoy the outdoors while patronizing our local businesses,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “Thank you to the Hoboken Business Alliance for partnering with the City to continue this option for our residents.”

All attendees are instructed to adhere to physical distancing and mask guidelines for social interaction to stay safe, as well as call ahead for a reservation at any of the local establishments or restaurants, if possible, to avoid overcrowding.
