AUTO THIEF RUNS FROM DUNKIN’: Unattended Car Stolen Outside Hoboken Doughnut Shop

We’re going to guess the victim REALLY needed a cup of coffee…

After leaving the car unattended, with the motor running, outside a Hoboken doughnut shop, the vehicle’s owner reported the car missing at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 13.

The Hoboken Police Department responded to 400 Newark Street on the report of a stolen vehicle. Officer Rutkowski arrived on the scene and was able to provide all other working personnel with the vehicle license plate, make and model of the stolen vehicle.

Soon after, Officer Jonathan Lyons stopped the vehicle in question in the area of 12th and Washington Street. Raul Lopez, 33, of Allentown, PA, was charged with Burglary, Theft of Motor Vehicle, and Theft of moveable property.

After the victim took possession of his vehicle he was issued a summons for leaving his motor vehicle running unattended.

On January 29, the Hoboken Police Department issued a public announcement warning drivers against leaving their vehicles unattended and running, as theft in these instances is on an uptick recently.

Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
