Michele Russo, whose impact on the Hoboken community has been immeasurable, passed away earlier this week.

Says Mayor Dawn Zimmer, “On behalf of the citizens of Hoboken, I want to express my deepest sympathies to the Russo family in the loss of their loved one Michele Russo, wife of former Mayor Anthony Russo, mother of Councilman Michael Russo, Police Officer Anthony Russo, and retired Police Officer Nicky Russo, and sister of Chief Financial Officer George DeStefano. I know this is a difficult time for the family, and my thoughts are with them as they mourn this loss.”

One of Michele Russo’s many community initiatives was spearheading the local cheerleading program.

“Russo was the driving force in getting the program approved by the Recreation Department and was able to get the team started,” said Joe Mindak, in a recent article for hMAG.

We send our condolences to the Russo Family, and to all those touched by her passing.
