KICK KIDS’ CANCER & CELEBRATE LIFE: St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraiser @ Northern Soul — Saturday, March 14th from 3-6 p.m.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, will host its next Hoboken fundraising event – “Kick Kids’ Cancer and Celebrate Life” – on Saturday, March 14th from 3 to 6 p.m., at Northern Soul Kitchen & Bar (700 First Street, Hoboken).

“I’ve got two healthy sons,” said event coordinator Jim O’Brien, “others aren’t so lucky.”

O’Brien will shave his head for the tenth time and invites any other ‘shavees’ to register and raise money by going bald with him.

Hoboken barbers, Nicole Appice-Davis and Steven Torres of SPESH (932 Washington St., Hoboken) return this year and will try to help the team break its record take of $8,068 raised a few years ago. Dozens have been sheared at the event over the years, each of whom raised money through sponsors.

Initially inspired by the story of a courageous 6 year-old boy named Liam who died of cancer nine years ago, O’Brien made it an annual event after his son’s friend, also named Liam, contracted cancer. The event is an offshoot of an annual St. Patrick’s Day party he and his buddies had hosted since college. Over $40,000 has been raised by the local event over the years.

There will be live music, food and drink specials, and crafts for the kids. There is no fee to attend, but donations will be taken. Supporters may also make donations on-line, or sign up to “Brave the Shave” in solidarity with the kids.

The national St. Baldrick’s Foundation, established in 1999, has raised more than $200 Million to fight the scourge of kids’ cancer.

Interested attendees, volunteers, shavees or donors are invited to go to https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/NorthernSoul2020 or contact Jim O’Brien at jobinhk@aol.com.
