Acme Reportedly Set to Take Over Hoboken A&P

Judges have approved the sale of 95 A&P stores, including the Hoboken location, for $370 million dollars.

The store at 614 Clinton Street will be taken over by Acme Markets, as the locations had been “covered by the agreement” with Acme following A&P’s Chapter 11 filing on July 19, 2015.

No specific word on what all of this actually means to the 104 employees who were facing layoffs on November 26—Thanksgiving Day.

The layoff notification was a said to be a simple formality of the bankruptcy process. The transfer of the Hoboken A&P location to Acme prior to the date given for the layoffs could potentially alleviate the loss of jobs.

Meanwhile, the Hoboken A&P currently remains open and staffed. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on what’s to come.
