BODY RECOVERED: Missing Hoboken Man Found in the Hudson River

The Hoboken Police Department and NYPD searched the Hudson River this afternoon, with the assistance of the New Jersey State Police, Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Transit Police, eventually finding the body of missing Hoboken man Matthew Genovese in the water at 1:25 Tuesday afternoon—approximately 50 feet south of Pier A.

Genovese was last reported to have left a bar on the corner of 1st & Bloomfield Streets, adjacent to Hoboken City Hall, at 11:33 p.m. on Saturday night. His friends had indicated that he was headed straight home. Surveillance video from the bar and neighboring businesses show him heading east upon leaving the establishment.

Genovese was reported missing Monday, prompting a massive search for the recent Fordham graduate, who worked at a financial services firm in Lower Manhattan. He was 24.

According to Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante, keys and a wallet belonging to Genovese were found in proximity of the recovery location. While there were no initial signs of trauma or foul play, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office investigation is currently active.
