We’re pretty big fans of Jack Silbert here at hMAG. We think he’s a righteous dude.

Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 4.29.55 PMWhen we first heard of our good friend and esteemed contributor suffering from health issues, we knew it would only be a matter of time before the community responded.

Jack has made such a positive impact in Hoboken, Jersey City and beyond—through his writing and his steadfast support of various cultural initiatives over the years.

Now that Jack could use a little support, folks are eager to lend a hand.

This Saturday, February 11th, there is a Benefit Concert for Jack Silbert at Monty Hall (WFMU HQ—43 Montgomery Street, Jersey City), featuring The Karyn Kuhl Band, Speed The Plough, The Vines of Hoboken, and Matt Davis.

“Alirio from The Hoboken Vines organized the show,” says Karyn Kuhl. “I knew there would be a benefit for Jack. Jack is very connected to WFMU & everyone playing has roots that go way back into the history of the Hoboken music scene & the original Maxwell’s. Hopefully this is just one of many.”

JackJack wrote the 2015 hMAG Feature on the Hoboken music scene, and has covered the cultural and social beat in Hudson County from all angles for a number of different publications over the years.

“Jack is such a good person. He’s kind, generous and funny to name a few of his many great qualities,” says Kuhl. “We would do anything we can to help him and get him back out there. We really miss seeing him singing ‘lalalalala’ to our song ‘The Stars Will Bring You Home‘. Shows just aren’t the same without him!”

In typical fashion, Jack is exceedingly grateful for the effort by his friends.

“Since I first went to Maxwell’s in 1992, I’ve loved seeing shows around here,” says Silbert. “And though it sounds a bit corny, music has really sustained me during my recovery—made me feel more like myself. I couldn’t feel more honored by this event.”

Jack has been through an awful lot over the past few months, and plenty more challenges lie ahead.

“He has been through more than most people could fathom but he’s a real fighter,” says Kuhl. “He is an inspiration in living in the moment, staying positive and counting your blessings… all with that great and unique Jack Silbert sense of humor.”
