It’s Halloween in Hoboken—which means the city’s celebrated Ragamuffin Parade is coming to Washington Street!!!

Despite a somewhat ghoulish weather forecast, the City says events will go on today “Rain or Shine.”

The Ragamuffin Parade and Costume Contest is held every Halloween afternoon on Washington Street, featuring local live music, floats, lots of great costumes and so much more.

Interested participants should meet on Washington between 13th Street and 14th Street. Line up begins at 3:15pm., with the Parade starting at 3:45.

A costume contest will begin around 4:15 p.m. immediately following the parade at the Little League Field, located at 5th Street and River Terrace in Stevens Park.

Be advised, Washington Street will be closed and NJ Transit buses will follow a detour during the parade.

Trick-or-treating will take place afterwards, generally through 9:00 p.m. Please be mindful of revelers in costumes as you make your way through the City.

According to the National Safety Council, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. In 2017, October ranked No. 2 in motor vehicle deaths by month, with 3,700.

Hoboken Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante told hMAG earlier today, “Our traffic bureau is always ready on this afternoon and night to do rolling street closures as situations dictate.” Regarding specific block closures, he says, “It’s always a fluid night—the only City-authorized closings are around the parade, but our traffic bureau is ready to close any street for public safety reasons if needed.”

Lime Scooters will be suspending their service on Thursday starting at noon in an effort to keep the streets and sidewalks clear:

Meanwhile, there will be a noticeable increase in HPD patrols, with 54 officers maintaining a steady police presence throughout the Mile Square.

Please, PLEASE be safe… and enjoy the amazing Hoboken Halloween!
