PIZZA HISTORY: Grimaldi’s Clinton Street Closing Due to Rent Hike

PIZZA HISTORY: Grimaldi’s Clinton Street Closing Due to Rent Hike

In what’s becoming an all-too-familiar story, here’s today’s update on a Hoboken icon going dark…

Grimaldi’s, which had been open on the corner of 2nd & Clinton since 1994, will close that location when their lease expires at the end of August, citing a rent hike.

Grimaldi’s other location, 411 Washington Street, will remain open.

Via a sandwich board outside the 133 Clinton Street restaurant:

“TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS:
We are sad to say that at the end of August, this location will be closing.
Our lease will expire and the rent is too high.
We would like to thank all of you who have been loyal customers for over 21 years.
We have made friends with the most wonderful people during our time here.
We hope you will visit us at our Washington Street location, where we will be spending our time.
Thank you for 21 years on Clinton Street.
Sean, Bernadette, Family and Staff”

Sources indicate that Grimaldi’s is looking for another location in the area to serve its customers in the back of Hoboken. We will update this story as we have more information.

Grimaldi’s announced closure comes in the wake of other high-profile commercial closures in Hoboken’s southwestern section, including Antique Bakery, Northern Soul, and most recently, Biggie’s Clam Bar.
