Soul-Crushing Road Work Returns to Hoboken This Week

Infrastructure is crucial, and requires maintenance. That’s cool—we get it.

Hoboken’s infrastructure is apparently so crucial—yet so delicate—that it requires perpetual maintenance, lasting until the end of days.

In the coming weeks, road work will return to our happy little town. In some places, it will return to where it was just a few weeks ago.

We dare not question why it returns. We’ve grown numb to it at this point, essentially forced to accept it as one of the more vexing hallmarks of contemporary urban life—like a double-wide stroller in a bodega, a fellow passenger clipping his toenails on a train, or that pee smell that lingers from May-October.

PSE&G will begin the first phase of milling and paving work to repair trenches created during the installation of new gas mains as part of the Energy Strong program. The project is replacing 31,000 linear feet of low pressure old cast iron mains in or near flood areas with new plastic pipe which operate at a higher pressure that prevents water from entering mains, increasing the reliability of gas service.

Parking will be prohibited on both sides of the street during milling and paving. Work on additional streets will be announced in the near future.
