HOBOKEN COMEDY FESTIVAL: September 25th – October 1st

HOBOKEN COMEDY FESTIVAL: September 25th – October 1st

(via Hoboken Comedy Festival)
For eight years the Hoboken Comedy Festival has been a “Celebration of Hoboken’s Entertainment independence,” proving that the best comedians will come to Hoboken to perform once a year. That claim has been well substantiated with past headliners Amy Schumer, Artie Lange, Hannibal Burress, Pete Davidson, Judah Friedlander, Ted Alexandro, Carlos Mencia, Todd Barry, Robert Kelly, Andrew Schulz, Jenny Zigrino, Chuck Nice, Nate Bargatze, Rory Scovel, Ardie Fuqua, and a cast of about 85 comedians each year in September.
This year is no different with twelve huge star-studded shows all throughout Hoboken. The festival headliners will be Kenny Garcia, as seen on AXS Gotham Comedy Live, Emma Willmann from TruTV, Ben Kronberg who’s been on Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing and Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Harrison Greenbaum from America’s Got Talent, Jon Laster known for BET’s Comicview, Luis J Gomez creator of Legion of Skanks Podcast, Bonnie McFarlane whose resume includes, Comedy Central, The Tonight Show, Last Comic Standing, and Letterman, Drew Michael from SNL and Comedy Central.
The talent is so huge on the Hoboken Comedy Festival, that even the feature acts are headliners with accomplished television credits. Between all 12 shows, patrons will have the opportunity to see nearly 100 comedians, with no repeat performances anywhere in the festival.

Not only does the Hoboken Comedy Festival hope to bring laughs to the community in October, they hope to tighten the community that supports the festival by giving back. Each year the Hoboken Comedy Festival selects a charity to support by donating $1 per ticket and accepting donations during all performances and on their website. For the third year in a row the Hoboken Comedy Festival is very proud to support the Liberty Humane Society — a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to promoting animal welfare who provides animal sheltering, behavioral therapy and adoption services. Each year the Festival creates a series of photographs with famous comedians and adoptable dogs to help promote the upcoming festival and LHS Donations.

The 8th Annual Hoboken Comedy Festival will consist of 12 shows from September 25th to October 1st, with October 1st being a vendor-friendly, dog-friendly, family-friendly Indoor/Outdoor comedy block party with additional new talent shows, live podcasts, and two live comedy shows ending the festivities.

“We really like to have our finger on the pulse of up and coming comedians,” says Festival Coordinator Dan Frigolette, “the new talent component has become an integral piece of the festival.”

The festival will take place over seven days in six different venues and showcase some of the most prolific talent in the comedy industry today.

Kicking off this year’s sevens days, eighty comedians and twelve shows all supporting the Liberty Humane Society, is Hoboken Comedy Festival virgin Kenny Garcia! HCF is thrilled to finally lock him down, he’s been making moves throughout the New York City Comedy scene for years, including his appearance on AXS/TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. Last year’s HCF Winner Lawrence Deloach features on this show that’s hosted by Festival Veteran Jonathan Randall. Randall’s been part of the festival since it’s inception, come see why!

You may as well call Tuesday’s Show “Comedy Cellar West” with 10 Funniest Comics in NYC Emma Willmann who just returned from the Just for Laugh’s Montreal Comedy Festival. She’s been a part of Hoboken Comedy Festival for about seven years and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her skyrocketing success. Other funny folks on the show are Jared Freid, host of the J Train Podcast every Tuesday and Friday and fellow Comedy Cellar Alum. Jason Salmon emcees the show. He just got done headlining a little club called Caroline’s on Broadway nbd.

New Talent Performances feature: Alex Aronson, Jessica Fleischer, James Dorsey, Matt Neimark, Leo Volf. One performer gets asked to perform again on Friday at 9pm.

-Wednesday 8pm at Turtle Club 936 Park Ave Hoboken NJ 07030

Maybe you don’t know who Ben Kronberg is, but Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, do, so someone must be misinformed here. He’s fantastic and comes off tour just days before the festival. Opening is Greg Stone from TruTV, AGT and  from once jumping onto Michael Bolton’s stage. New York staple Gracie Canaan hosts.

New Talent Performances feature: Myles Hewette, Christopher Crespo, Krista Komondor, Nathan Hoffman, Rob Stalkie, Meghan Walsh. One performer gets asked to perform again on Saturday at 7pm.

-Thursday 8pm at Taphaus 800 Jackson Street Hoboken NJ 07030

You may remember Thursday’s headliner from his prior performances at the Hoboken Comedy Festival, but you’ll definitely recognize Harrison Greenbaum from his groundbreaking performance this year on America’s Got Talent where he may or may not have given a certain member of the panel the “Simon Treatment.” Also performing is real life Greenbaum best friend Corinne Fisher, oh yeah she also is the co-host of the wildly successful Guys We F***ked Podcast and has been seen on Carson Daly, we’re more excited about the dynamic duo teaming up at this festival. Hosted by half of the Raybould Brother’s, and KickTV Alum Jordan Raybould.

New Talent Performances feature: Michael Verdi, John Kim, Mike Menendez, Molly Kornfeld, Gus Tate. One performer gets asked to perform again on Saturday at 9pm.

-Friday 7pm at Birch 92 River Street Hoboken NJ 07030

Jon Laster’s not only headlining the first weekend show of the Festival, he’s also the real deal. Vetted by BET, The Comedy Cellar, and dare we say a dozen of the most sought after headliner’s in the business (just look at his instagram feed), he’s Hoboken first timer and we’re committed to showing him a good time. Four and five timers Matt Pavich (MTV) and Leah Bonnema (Oxygen) have been long time supporters of the Hoboken Comedy Festival and we show love by watching these talented comedians raucously entertain. Festival coordinator Dan Frigolette emcee’s this shindig, he’s been on Wendy Williams Show, W Kamau Bell Show, Bob and Tom, Artie Lange and you’ve probably seen him handing out flyers at the Hoboken PATH Train (this thing is his baby).

Friday 9pm at Birch 92 River Street Hoboken NJ 07030

All eyes should be on rising star Luis J Gomez who’s one of the hardest working comedians in the stratosphere. The guy hosts Legion of Skanks Podcast, Real Ass Podcast, and Believe You Me Podcast, he’s the brainchild responsible for Gas Digital Network and Skankfest! When he’s not running all of that he’s hosting Roastmasters at The Stand or hopping on a plane to Los Angeles to play the Comedy Store. Look it’s amazing he was able to find any time whatsoever, so come see this #beastmode performance. If that’s not enough, Dan Lamorte will be there with material fresh of his comedy album “Not Enough Pieces” as will everyone’s best friend Usama Siddiquee, who’s won every comedy festival created.

Saturday 7pm at Birch 92 River Street Hoboken NJ

If you’re looking for a resume with dominance and veteran status just look at Bonnie McFarlane’s appearances on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Late Show with David Letterman, @Midnight, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Red Eye w/ Tom Shillue, even Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. If that’s not enough she’s also married to equally accomplished comedian Rich Vos, making this a comedy power couple the likes of Beyonce and Jay Z. If nothing else, you can be confident that she’s the real deal, and libel to open up your nasal cavities and funny bones.

Opening on this show will be Laughs on Fox alum and Jersey City resident Brett Druck. He’s keen witty word play is making him stand out on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and has even landed him a 6 month road tour for 2018! As host and emcee is Vincent James Pietravesa, who is as italian and as funny as can be.

-Saturday 9pm at Birch 92 River Street Hoboken NJ

Not to be outdone by the early show, the late show features Drew Michael who has his own Comedy Central Special, dozens of cameos in the hottest shows around the country, and he was a writer for SNL, (talk about checking comedy’s success boxes). Esther Steinberg from Oxygen’s Funny Girls comes on to feature on this show along with former Hoboken Comedy Festival Winner and Reddit’s most upvoted comedian James Myers. The whole thing’s hosted by Kareem Green from Russell Simmons Presents on Comedy Central.

-Sunday 2pm-5pm at Taphaus 800 Jackson Street BLOCK PARTY

With fall in full swing, the Hoboken Comedy Festival always plans for beautiful New Jersey weather. This year is no different with the Block Party offering thirty comedians, a dozen vendors, food trucks, cold beer and dog friendly events with the collaboration of the Liberty Humane Society. If that’s not enough stuff, there’s headliner’s dropping by every hour, Ben Kronberg, Adam Gabel, Aparna Nancherla, Richie Redding to name a few.  And thirty of the funniest new talent performers this side of the Hudson (and the other other side of the Hudson).

-Sunday 4pm at Taphaus 800 Jackson Street Hoboken NJ

No one could be happier than the Hoboken Comedy Festival team that long time supporter and Emergency Veterinarian Dr Lisa Lippmann has started a podcast, and asked the hilarious Richie Redding to co-host. These two are family to the fest and to the Liberty Humane Society. They will also be Live Taping an Episode of Pets and Punchlines Podcast where comedians get Pet Advice from Dr Lisa and Richie.

-Sunday 7pm at Taphaus 800 Jackson Street Hoboken NJ

Every year the Hoboken Comedy Festival picks a Winner and lets he or she perform at the final night of the fest (and two other performances prior). Nothing has changed. Come find out who wins the 2017 Hoboken Comedy Festival, and while you’re at it see Late Show with Stephen Colbert and David Letterman Alum Jon Fisch! He also showed up on The Apprentice and Hell’s Kitchen. Also featured Sunday is Robyn Schall from Gotham Comedy Live and Bethenny and the aforementioned Richie Redding, who aside his new fantastic podcast travelled the world opening on the Katt Williams Tour. Hosting the soiree is the name so nice it’s used twice Stone and Stone the hilarious comedy duo who’ve built a name and a long running comedy show in Manhattan.

Tickets are $5 cheaper online than at the door at $5, $15, $20, and $1 per goes to the Liberty Humane Society. Help dogs, then help yourself to some laughs.
